    About the standard

ASC works with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and food service companies, scientists, conservation groups and consumers to:

    • Recognize and reward responsible aquaculture through the ASC aquaculture certification program and the seafood label.

    • Contribute to transform seafood markets towards sustainability.

    • Promote the best choice in the purchase of marine products, also considering environmental and social criteria.

    Scope

The ASC farm standards set strict requirements for responsible aquaculture for different aquatic organisms that encourage seafood producers to minimize the key environmental and social impacts of aquaculture. The ASC standards are based on best

ASC Feed Standard is the first Standard to take into consideration the impacts created across all key ingredient groups and across the entire ingredient supply chain (feed mills & suppliers). Includes all major agriculture crops such as wheat, corn and canola, in addition to soy and palm oil, and marine ingredients. The ASC Feed Standard became effective in January 2023 and feed mills are now applying for certification. ASC certified farms have until October 2025 to transition to ASC compliant feed produced under the ASC Feed Standard to continue to meet the ASC Farm Standards.

    Requirements

    • The farm shall be in operation for a minimum period of 6 months, or

    • The farm has completed the previous harvest cycle, and this cycle has similar operational conditions or

    • Before the site has completed an initial harvest cycle, providing that data, as required by the relevant farm standard indicators, will be available for CAB review within the prescribed certification decision timelines.
